What Causes Dehydrated Skin?
LAPO Skin Science
Dehydrated skin occurs when the skin barrier is weakened, allowing moisture to escape faster than it can be replenished. This leads to tightness, dryness, redness, and irritation. Several factors contribute to dehydration, including:
1. Environmental Stressors – Harsh weather, pollution, and UV exposure strip the skin of essential moisture.
2. Over-Cleansing or Harsh Products – Using strong cleansers or exfoliants can disrupt the skin’s natural moisture balance.
3. Aging & Hyaluronic Acid Depletion – As we age, the skin produces less hyaluronic acid, reducing its ability to retain hydration.
4. Lifestyle Factors – Inadequate water intake, excessive caffeine or alcohol consumption, and lack of sleep affect the skin’s ability to stay hydrated.
5. Compromised Skin Barrier – Damage to the epidermis disrupts the Natural Moisturizing Factor (NMF), leading to water loss, dullness, and reduced elasticity.
